SERVICE ALERT: January 2016 Snow Event
UPDATE 2/1, 4:45pm: Capital Bikeshare has resumed normal service at all 360 stations across the region. Rebalancing and bike checking staff will resume normal operations beginning this evening.
Thank you for your patience as we dug out from the historic snowfall of January 22-24. We are so glad to be back up and riding once again.
UPDATE 1/28, 2pm: Capital Bikeshare will resume limited service in Montgomery County as of 2pm today, Thursday 1/28. Stations systemwide will continue to be opened on a rolling basis as our staff ensures they’re clear and operational. As the region recovers from snow, please exercise caution when traveling by any method.
Stations that have been activated for service will appear on the Station Map and on the Spotcycle App. Stations on the map that show bike and dock numbers are activated for use. Please do not attempt to return a bike to a station that has not been cleared and listed as active on the Station Map or Spotcycle App. If you encounter staff in the process of clearing a station, please do not attempt to return your bike to them.
Stations will be opened on a rolling basis as our staff ensures they’re clear and operational. If you see a station that you believe is clear enough for use but not yet available for service, please send us the station name and a picture on Facebook or Twitter, or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will send staff out to confirm it’s ok to use. Be sure to show the both the front and back of the station in your photo.
Please note that there will be no rebalancing or bike checking during this limited service. Our staff will remain focused on clearing stations until all of our stations are cleared for use. Check the Station Map or Spotcycle App before starting your trip.
We’ll keep you up to date as we make more progress. Be sure to check our website for the latest updates. Thank you for your patience as we work hard to restore full service to the system.
UPDATE 1/27, 3pm: Capital Bikeshare will begin limited service at stations that have been cleared in DC, Arlington and Alexandria at 3:30pm today, Wednesday January 27. UPDATE 1/26, 2:00pm: Capital Bikeshare is working hard to clear snowbound stations as rapidly as possible. However, the snow is heavy and plentiful and while our staff is working hard, progress is slow. Because of this, the system will remain closed on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
Our priority is to provide safe access to our bikeshare stations. Each jurisdiction—the District of Columbia, Arlington County, the City of Alexandria and Montgomery County—will reopen their portion of the system once a useful number of their stations are cleared for use. We will announce any reopenings on capitalbikeshare.com, via email, Facebook and Twitter
