With the right clothing, bag and a good strategy, biking can be just the breeze you were looking for on a hot day.

Foreign Tourist - A BIXI Bikeshare Story

The DC Metro area loves to head north for summer vacation to escape the heat and humidity. We know many members travel to Montreal in search of culture and cooler weather based on several reports we’ve received about a rogue Capital Bikeshare bike roaming its streets. What’s the story here? Some kind of study-abroad program for Bikeshare bikes? We asked our friends at the BIXI Montreal system to get to the bottom of this great international Bikeshare mystery.

Destination: Brookland

Sometimes called Little Rome for the multitude of nearby catholic institutions, the DC neighborhood of Brookland is known for its neighborhood feel centered around a small-town style main street. It is located north of Rhode Island Ave, west of South Dakota Ave, south of Michigan Ave and underneath giant letters that are technically not in the neighborhood. With its central hub on 12th Street surrounded by some stunning church architecture, Brookland makes a great weekend riding destination. Escape the summer heat where many US Presidents used to and head out to see the lesser-seen sights.

  • Brooks Mansion

The home of Col. Jeheil Brooks and his wife Ann, the Brooks Mansion is where Brookland gets its name. Designed in the Greek Revival style, this historic landmark is located at 901 Newton St. NE and is currently DCTV’s studios. During its existence, the Brooks Mansion has been home to several Catholic orders, a classroom for women prior to their acceptance at Catholic University, housed the offices of WMATA and served as St. Anthony’s High School. Swing by and see a slice of neighborhood history!
