SERVICE ALERT: NMAAHC Opening Celebration Corral Service, Closures

Capital Bikeshare is honored to be a small part of the Smithsonian's grand opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture this Saturday, September 24 on the National Mall.

To accommodate security considerations and the high expected attendance for the opening ceremony, we have made some service adjustments to the area surrounding the museum for Saturday's event.

Corral Service will be provided from 8am-1pm on Saturday at the 10th St & Constitution Ave Station.

Corral Service means that we guarantee available Bikeshare docks for those attending the festivities between the hours posted. Grab a bike and head on down to welcome the newest museum on the National Mall.

Due to the security perimeter, we are closing the following stations for the entire day on September 24.

  • Jefferson Dr & 14th St SW
  • Smithsonian / Jefferson Dr & 12th St SW

These stations will be offline and unavailable for checking out or returning bikes. Please use other nearby stations or the Corral Service location.

As always, check Spotcycle before you ride this weekend.

Proper Docking Practices

Are you parking your bike the right way? When you return a bike to a dock, please make sure that you dock your bike correctly. What does that look like? Here’s a little video reminder. There have been over 13,000 trips per day at times this summer and most of them end with a flash of green and a pleasant ding.

When you check your bike back in at a station, you must ensure that the green light appears. If you do not see the green light, or you get a red light, try the following steps:

  1. Try docking it again. Make sure the bike is lined up to go straight into the dock and press firmly.
  2. Try a different dock. That might mean going to another station if one is not available at your current location.
  3. If the bike will not release from the dock, and you saw a red light, call the customer service call center at 1-877-430-BIKE (2453) right away. Your trip has not been completed yet and our staff needs to know that there is a problem.

Remember: when you are riding Capital Bikeshare, you are responsible for the bike, per the terms of the User Agreement. It’s important to let our staff know if there is an issue returning the bike as quickly as possible, so that we can help find a solution.
