New East of the Anacostia River stations to be added to the 24 that already exist!
Capital Bikeshare is the Metro DC area’s public bike sharing system, which means we aim to be an accessible transportation resource for everyone across our five participating jurisdictions. With that in mind, we’re excited to announce a new round of expansion in DC! We’re adding eight new stations east of the Anacostia River to better serve the communities of Congress Heights, Fort Dupont, Park Village, and Bellevue.
We would like to thank the ANC Commissioners, Councilmember, our community partners East of the Anacostia River, and most importantly the residents of Wards 7 and 8 for all of their time, energy and support in making this expansion possible. The new locations will add to the 24 stations already serving communities east of the Anacostia River and connect with parks, recreation centers, schools, retail establishments, and public transit facilities across these communities, including:
Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Center (THEARC)
Oxon Run Trail & Park
Dupont Ice Arena
Bald Eagle Rec Center
PR Harris Educational Center
The Shops at Park Village
Our Community Outreach team will continue their presence in the community both during and after the installations, to make sure everyone who wants to know more about Capital Bikeshare, the stations, and how the bikes work can get an introduction to the system.
We will also be holding a Community Celebration to cut the ribbon on this expansion and introduce the community to the new Capital Bikeshare options in their neighborhoods as we celebrate our 7th Birthday from 4pm to 7pm on September 29 at THEARC. There will be free food, live music and performances from local artists, the DPR Fun Wagon will be on site, and we’ll be offering test rides on Capital Bikeshare!
